As the holidays are upon us and the new year approaches in these uncertain times, please allow me first to say I hope you and yours are doing well and staying safe. 

My Name is Carlos Contreras. I am part of a current project led by two great local firms: RK Venture and Marketing Solutions, they are delving into the creative process of what will be a marketing campaign for Route 66 on behalf of  the City of Albuquerque.

These creatives and their respective businesses are accepting the invitation and opportunity to help the people of Albuquerque, our neighborhoods, and their residents along Central – and within the Route 66 corridor.

Solid Waste Management Offering Christmas Tree Recycling 
The Solid Waste Management Department, Parks and Recreation, and PNM will recycle real Christmas Trees for FREE at three separate locations in Albuquerque starting Monday, December 28, 2020. No artificial trees will be accepted.  Trees may be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2020 through Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the following locations:

  • Montessa Park Convenience Center, 3512 Los Picaros SE, 873-6607
  • Eagle Rock Convenience Center, 6301 Eagle Rock NE, 857-8318
  • Ladera Golf Course, 3401 Ladera Dr NW, 836-4449

Please remove all bags, tree stands, decorations and lights from trees before dropping them off to be mulched. Limit 5 trees per

IDO Annual Update Study Session December 17th

As part of the commitment to improving the IDO every year, Planning staff has submitted the annual update to the Integrated Development Ordinance for 2020. 

This update involves 2 separate sets of proposed changes:

  1. Text amendments that would affect properties citywide.
  2. Text amendments that would affect properties in 14 small areas in Albuquerque.

Planning staff will host a “study session” / open house for the public on Thursday, December 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom. Staff will give a short presentation with an overview of key changes, and then staff will answer questions in breakout rooms for folks who have similar questions. 

There are 3 steps in the City’s review/decision process, which is expected to take at least 4 months:

  1. The Environmental Planning Commission (EPC) reviews and recommends.
  2. The City Council’s Land Use, Planning, and Zoning (LUPZ) committee reviews and recommends.
  3. The City Council decides.

Each of these steps includes opportunities for public comments. Throughout this process, City staff will continue meet with individuals and groups to answer questions and help develop comments/suggestions for decision-makers to consider.

The Environmental Planning Commission (EPC) will review these proposed changes and take public comments at a hearing on Thursday, January 21 at 8:30 a.m. via Zoom. EPC will make a recommendation to the City Council, which will make the final decision.
