Westside Boulevard Median Landscaping Delayed

The latest communication from Aziza Chavez, City Council CIP Project Coordinator, indicates that the start of this project has been delayed until July/August:

“You may have noticed we are delayed in starting the work on the Westside medians. I’ve been informed that we should be able to begin construction in July/August. Unfortunately, we are not able to get a permit until the median work on Coors and the 528 sign project are complete. I’m told the state doesn’t want too many roads with closed lanes too close together at the same time…”

Jane’s Walks Coming to Albuquerque This Weekend

Jane’s Walk is a global event in more than 200 cities, named for Jane Jacobs, an activist and author who championed new approaches to urban planning and development. In the spirit of Jacobs, the walks are meant to spark conversations about history, development, and urban life. The Walks take place Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 in the following neighborhoods: Fourth Ward Historic District, Huning Highlands, Raynolds Addition, Highlands, Nob Hill, and Parkland Hills Addition, and are 60 to 90 minutes long. The Office of Neighborhood Coordination (ONC) will partner with Jane’s Walks for the Raynolds Addition Walk on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. if you would like to join us. May is National Bike Month!

May is National Bike Month, featuring various dates dedicated to celebrating biking. This year, the City of Albuquerque will offer several free Bicycle Safety Classes (registration required), and on Friday, May 16, there will be Bike to Work Day pop-up cycle stops where individuals can pick up bike safety gear.

New Mexico Law Enforcement Memorial Ride Coming in May

The 13th Annual New Mexico Law Enforcement Memorial Ride is Saturday, May 10 starting at 7:00 a.m.
The Law Enforcement Memorial Bike Ride is a bicycle tour from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, following the scenic Turquoise Trail, to honor law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. To register and for additional information, visit: https://nmlememorialride.org/

Dog Walker Watch Program Kicks Off First Training Next Saturday May 10th

The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) is hosting a kickoff training for its new initiative, Dog Walker Watch Program, on Saturday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m., at Vista del Norte Park, 1005 Osuna NE near the dog park. Developed by the National Association of Town Watch, Dog Walker Watch is a program that encourages those who are active in the community walking their dogs to be an extra set of “eyes and ears” for law enforcement. Dog walkers are trained in observing, recognizing and reporting suspicious activity.
