CONSTRUCTION CONTINUING ON WESTSIDE BLVD WIDENING PROJECT

NEW:(Weather permitting)On Wednesday, Dec. 15,2021, crews will move westbound traffic on Westside Blvd west of NM 528 to the left-hand lane so that they can prepare the right-hand lane for paving. The right-hand turn bay for motorists heading north on NM 528 to turn left and head west on Westside Blvd will be closed. Grande Blvd will continue to be open, with flaggers providing access for motorists to turn left and head west as needed. Also, crews will close the northbound right-hand lane on Golf Course from south of the intersection of Westside and Golf Course to north of the intersection of Westside and Golf Course as well as the right-hand turn lane from westbound Westside to northbound Golf Course to construct Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access on the northwest corner of Golf Course and Westside.

The closure on Golf Course is expected to last about 7-10 days. The work on Westside is expected to last through the week of Dec. 20-24, then crews will open up the right-hand lane and close the left-hand lane so that the left-hand lane can be prepared for paving.

ONGOING: The following traffic impacts remain in place:

  • Westbound motorists on Westside Blvd are able to turn right and head north, turn left and head south on Golf Course Rd, or head straight on Westside Blvd.
  • Eastbound motorists on Westside Blvd are split with two lanes to the south to turn right and head south on Golf Course Rd or head straight on Westside Blvd, and a separate lane to the north to turn left and head north on Golf Course Rd.
  • Due to ongoing work in the far left-hand lane of Westside Blvd, eastbound motorists on Westside will not be able to access Grande Blvd by turning left. They can access Grande Blvd by heading north on NM 528 and turning left at 21st Ave.

Regular work hours are Mon.-Fri., 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m., although the contractor may work longer hours or on weekends if needed. Crews will not be working Thursday afternoon, Dec. 23, and Friday, Dec. 24, in observance of the Christmas holiday, but all barricades will remain in place for safety. All construction is weather permitting and subject to change without notice.

NEW: Beginning Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, and lasting through the end of December 2021, crews will begin working in the median just west of the intersection of Golf Course Rd and Westside Blvd. Traffic impacts for this work will include:

  • Westbound motorists on Westside Blvd will be able to turn right and head north, turn left and head south on Golf Course Rd, or head straight on Westside Blvd.
  • Eastbound motorists on Westside Blvd will be split with two lanes to the south to turn right and head south on Golf Course Rd or head straight on Westside Blvd, and a separate lane to the north to turn left and head north on Golf Course Rd. (See map above)

ONGOING: Grande Blvd is now open from the westbound lanes of Westside Blvd. (See map above).

  • Westbound motorists on Westside Blvd are able to turn right and head north on Grande Blvd.
  • Southbound motorists on Grande Blvd are able to turn right and head west on Westside Blvd.

However, due to ongoing work in the far left-hand lane of Westside Blvd, eastbound motorists on Westside will not be able to access Grande Blvd by turning left. They can access Grande Blvd by heading north on NM 528 and turning left at 21st Ave. This part of construction is expected to last through mid to late December.

Regular work hours are Mon.-Fri., 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m., although the contractor may work longer hours or on weekends if needed. Crews will not be working Thursday, Nov. 25, or Friday, Nov. 26, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, but all barricades will remain in place for safety. All construction is weather permitting and subject to change without notice.


Construction Update on Westside Blvd Widening Project

Star Paving is continuing construction on the first phase of the Westside Blvd widening project, which is expected to last through late fall 2021. The entire project is expected to be completed in spring 2022. For now, the following traffic impacts will be in place:

  • Westside Blvd will have westbound traffic shifted and reduced to one lane west of Golf Course Rd and just east of Golf Course Rd. 

Please note that the contractor will open up the straight thru lane for westbound traffic on Westside Blvd when possible, but will need to close it often for safety reasons. When there is only one westbound lane open on Westside Blvd west of Golf Course Rd, there may be delays. Motorists should seek an alternate route when possible.

  • Golf Course Rd will have one thru lane and one right-turn lane of northbound traffic south of Westside Blvd.
  • Golf Course Rd will have one lane of northbound traffic just north of Westside Blvd.
  • Golf Course Rd will have one lane of southbound traffic just north of Westside Blvd.

Regular work hours are Mon.-Fri. 7 a.m.-5 p.m., although the contractor may work longer hours or on weekends if needed. The contractor will not be working on Monday, May 31, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday, but barricades will remain in place.

Construction Begins Monday, May 3, on Westside Blvd Widening Project

About the Westside Blvd Widening Project
The Westside Blvd Widening Project will widen about 0.85 miles of Westside Blvd from NM 528 (Coors Blvd) to Golf Course Rd from two lanes to four. It will also provide dedicated left-hand turn lanes at the intersections of Westside Blvd and Golf Course Rd, 7 Bar Loop, Sierrita Rd and Grande Blvd. In addition, the project will improve storm drainage and provide better, safer travel options for pedestrians and bicyclists.
