City Redistricting Takes Effect October 20

At the September 19, 2022 City Council Meeting, the Council approved O-22-34 and Concept Map A as their new City Council District boundaries for the next 10 years. The ordinance will be formally published on Thursday, October 13, 2022 and the new Council District Boundaries will take effect on Thursday, October 20, 2022. City Council webpage and updated AGIS mapping layers will also go into effect on October 20.

The new City Council District boundaries account for population changes and offers minimal change from current Council Districts. Council District boundaries remain identical for Districts 3, 4, and 9. Changes to other Districts include:

  • District 5 had to lose population. Its boundary with District 1 moves north to the bluff south of the Petroglyph Estates.
  • District 2 crosses the river between Central and I-40 to Coors taking the West Mesa and Pat Hurley neighborhoods from District 1.
  • District 6 moves west into District 2 from Buena Vista to I-25 between Gibson and Lomas. District 6 also takes the University West area (including Carrie Tingley Hospital) from District 2.
  • District 7 moves south into District 2 from I-40 to Lomas between I-25 and Carlisle not including the University West area.
  • District 8 moves into District 7 from Montgomery to Comanche between Wyoming and Eubank.

ONE Albuquerque Fall Newsletter

Hello Albuquerque,

It’s officially fall, which means we’re in the prime season of green chile roasting, golden cottonwoods, and of course, Balloon Fiesta. This year, we’re celebrating the Fiesta’s 50th Anniversary. For 50 years, our city has grown this tradition and the community around it into what is is today: an event that has captured the imagination of millions and represents the heart of the community.

Here at the City, we’re in Fiesta mode and have been hard at work preparing for visitors from near and far. We’ve built a number of significant improvements that will help this year be a success and pave the way for the next 50 years of Fiesta. Those infrastructure improvements include more parking and the installation of a new slip ramp that will reduce traffic congestion and make exiting the park easier for drivers. Our Solid Waste Department and Parks and Recreation joined forces for last weekend’s Company’s Comin’ event, and we are so grateful for their hard work and that of the volunteers who joined them to tidy up the park and nearby neighborhoods.

The Balloon Fiesta is a testament to our community and an opportunity for us to celebrate the best of Albuquerque together. There is something so special about taking your children for the first time, bringing in your friends from out of town, or taking part in your own unique Fiesta traditions. This really is one of the best times of the year, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone out there.

Sincerely,

Mayor Tim Keller
