IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Westside Blvd Widening Project will go into suspension on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, for about three months so that the Water Authority can install a new raw water transmission pipeline along the south side of Westside Blvd. This work is being done now to minimize the impact homes and businesses along Westside by avoiding having to come back in and tear up newly installed asphalt paving. The Water Authority expects to complete construction in June 2022. After that, the City of Albuquerque will resume construction on this project and expects to complete it in about two months. You will automatically receive updates on the Water Authority project unless you unsubscribe. We apologize for the inconvenience and will work to get all construction in this area completed as soon as possible.

As of yesterday, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, crews opened the dedicated right-hand turn for eastbound traffic on Westside Blvd to head southbound on NM 528.

The following traffic impacts are in place:

  • Westbound traffic on Westside Blvd is reduced to one lane between NM 528 and Golf Course Rd.
  • Eastbound traffic on Westside Blvd is reduced to one lane between Golf Course Rd and Grande Blvd. Eastbound traffic on Westside Blvd shifts to the south at Grande Blvd and has two lanes available as well as the dedicated right-hand turn lane to head southbound on NM 528.
  • Traffic on La Sierrita Rd and 7 Bar Loop Rd is able to turn right and head eastbound on Westside Blvd, but is NOT able to turn left and head westbound on Westside Blvd. Motorists can access westbound Westside Blvd by taking 7-Bar Loop Rd south to Driftwood Ave, heading west on Driftwood Ave, then north on Golf Course Rd. Westbound motorists on Westside Blvd can access La Sierrita or 7 Bar Loop Rd via Golf Course Rd south to Driftwood Ave, then east on Driftwood Ave to 7 Bar Loop Rd.

Regular work hours are Mon.-Fri., 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m., although the contractor may work longer hours or on weekends if needed. All construction is weather permitting and subject to change without notice.

Construction on Westside Blvd. for New Raw Water Transmission Pipeline

Image

Our HOA recently received the following communication from Patti Watson, President of CWA Strategic Communications, regarding additional construction on Westside Boulevard.

“Hello, my name is Patti Watson and I am president of CWA Strategic Communications. You may recognize my name because I have been handling communications for the City of Albuquerque’s Westside Boulevard Widening Project since construction began in May 2021. My firm has been sending out construction updates and we handle the project website — https://www.westsidewidening.com/.

I also work with the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority (Water Authority). The Water Authority is working with Intel Corporation to build a new raw water transmission pipeline that will allow Intel to expand its operations in Rio Rancho, creating jobs and new economic development opportunities.

A portion of this pipeline, titled Bid Package 1—Westside Blvd on the map will be laid on the south side of Westside Blvd. from west of Golf Course Road to west of NM 528. The Water Authority is coordinating with the City of Albuquerque so that this portion of the pipeline can be built while the City’s project is still underway, before the roadway is repaved and/or the curb and sidewalk are removed and replaced.
