City Leaders Academy Spring 2024 Session March 2nd

You are invited to attend the 2024 City Leaders Academy session on March 2, 2024.
At this session we will actively learn how to navigate the Integrative Development Ordinance (IDO zoning code). In a hands-on training, learn about how Overlay Zones apply to your zoning district, how the City of Albuquerque Comprehensive Plan affects development in your city, and how you can get involved in local community planning efforts.

The goal of the City Leaders Academy is to help members of the community fully and effectively engage in local government.

MRMPO Seeks Feedback on Albuquerque Long-Range Transportation Plan

The Mid-Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MRMPO) is kicking off the update to the greater Albuquerque metropolitan area’s long-range transportation plan, the Transitions 2045 MTP and seeks feedback from the public on the plan. The 2045 Transitions MTP will highlight existing transportation conditions, future needs, and identify projects to help meet our regional and federal goals.

Please take this opportunity to comment on transportation in the region. The survey seeks to understand what is important to you when it comes to transportation vision, goals, and specific areas you find challenging along your daily route. There is an online survey the public can take that is fun, interactive, and should take less than five minutes. City Requests Public Feedback on Rail Trail

The Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency has published a public comment draft of a new report, Advancing Inclusive Growth through the Albuquerque Rail Trail. The Albuquerque Rail Trail is a planned 7-mile urban bike and pedestrian trail, an iconic and artistic parkway that will reflect Albuquerque’s vibrant history and cultural diversity. This new report highlights the trends in Rail Trail neighborhoods and recommends programs that can promote neighborhood stability and vibrancy.

Fixit Clinic Will Teach You To Fix your Household Items

The Solid Waste Management Department and Keep Albuquerque Beautiful will partner with Quelab Makerspace and Fuse Makerspace to host this year’s Fixit Clinic on Saturday, February 24, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, at the Quelab Makerspace, 680 Haines Ave NW. Bring your broken household items and learn from our experienced coaches how they can be repaired. This is a free, all-ages event where people can learn how to assess, disassemble, and hopefully repair broken household items instead of sending them to the landfill. The acceptable items include bikes, small appliances, electronics, and sewing projects.

There is also need for skilled individuals who are handy and experienced in sewing, woodwork, leatherwork, electronics, small appliances, and jewelry, so please register if you have any of these skills.

ONE Albuquerque January Newsletter

Happy New Year, Albuquerque.

As we embark on 2024, we are taking time to reflect on the many successes of the last year like a record-breaking Balloon Fiesta, major progress on housing policy, expanding public safety resources, and so much more. In fact, you can find out more about our City’s accomplishments here in our “Year in Review” report.

We are also taking time to refresh our efforts and focus on making Albuquerque the best city for families. In just a few weeks, we will be at the legislative session, advocating for funding and policies that can move our city forward in these endeavors.

For the first time in decades, crime stats are trending in the right direction. Plans for better access and more housing are actually being realized. That’s why we must double down and capitalize on this momentum as we are looking to partner with the State to invest in needed services.

No city has more potential than ABQ to be the best place for families. But this is only something we can achieve together. Join us in our crusade during the session and let your legislators know that it’s time to give ABQ families the attention they deserve. And if you want to take your community engagement to the next level, the City offers so many opportunities to get involved through jobs, volunteering, or even boards and commissions like the ones listed in this letter.

Let’s fulfill the promise of Albuquerque together.
