One Albuquerque Newsletter

Hello Albuquerque,

As we get ready to lift capacity restrictions and fully reopen our City this week, I am filled with gratitude for every Burqueño who helped us get here. The last fifteen months have provided so many challenges, but time and time again I’ve seen our community tackle them head on. Thank you for all you’ve done to get us to where we are today. Thank you for getting vaccinated, for volunteering your time and helping out neighbors in need. From the start, Albuquerque has been a national leader in our response to the pandemic, and we are ready to recover and continue to make Burque the best, healthiest city in the region.

This weekend, my family and I are excited to watch fireworks return to the Duke City. We have been enjoying all the fun summertime activities Albuquerque has to offer like the splash pad at Civic Plaza and flying kites at the park in our neighborhood. For parents or caregivers, I want to remind you that the City has great programs at our community centers and other facilities for children. My kids love going to summer rec and have brought home great art projects and stories daily. There are still spots open for families that need support or are just looking for fun new ways to keep kids active in the summer. Visit yc.cabq.gov to register and to see all the enriching programs available for kids.

Although our city is buzzing with excitement, I know this week does not come without pain and heartache. So many in our community lost friends and family to COVID-19. We honor the lives lost throughout the pandemic and hold their loved ones in our hearts. Liz and I were also deeply saddened by the ballooning accident that took the lives of five beloved community members over the weekend. This is a terrible tragedy for our city and the ballooning community worldwide. Our thoughts and prayers are with those in mourning.

Albuquerque is strong and resilient because of our people. It is an honor to be your Mayor.

Mayor Tim Keller
