With the recent announcement of the first two human cases of West Nile virus here in Bernalillo County this year, it’s essential to protect yourself and your family against mosquito bites which cause the virus. All residents are encouraged to use insect repellent with proven, effective ingredients such as DEET, picaridin, permethrin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus, limiting exposure to mosquitoes by avoiding outdoor activities at dawn and dusk, and eliminating sources of standing water on your property, which is where mosquitoes lay their eggs.
