The Northwest Area Command has been focusing its efforts towards reducing gun violence. Officers are directed to proactively patrol “hot spots” for gun related crimes. These areas include, but are not limited to shots fired calls, robberies, and burglaries where firearms are taken. We strongly encourage community members to report any shots fired calls. Officers will check the area and attempt to locate spent cartridges and/or spent bullets. When these items are located, they will be tagged into evidence and run through The National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) database. The database can provide possible “hits,” meaning that the items can be linked to other crimes which can help officers identify suspects.
As the weather has gotten warmer, officers have seen an increase in individuals checking door handles to vehicles as well as an increase in auto burglaries. Please remember to lock your doors and remove all valuables from your vehicle. If you have any surveillance videos of these crimes, please provide it to police. Officers can often identify the suspects, or ask the community for assistance.
