Dear District 17 Constituents,
It is difficult to watch so many catastrophic events happening around our nation, and state. Locally our communities need help if you are able, please give to the American Red Cross, or to The Community Foundation of Lincoln County, PO Box 2750, Ruidoso, NM 88355. Please help if you can.
Closer to our District, there are many local nonprofits working around Albuquerque and Bernalillo County on various issues, such
as with our children, youth, housing, seniors, etc. My Office is happy to provide you with a more detailed list of non-profits you can donate funding to, or much-needed items.
Speaking of our District 17 office, we are happy to inform you that I have opened a local office at the Don Newton Taylor Ranch Community Center on Monday and Wednesday mornings. My Assistant Gabriella Griego is there on those days, between the hours of 8-10:30 am, as oftentimes I have conflicting meetings. However, if you care to meet with me on any issue, we are always available to schedule a date and time to meet with you in person, or on a Zoom call. I am grateful to the City of Albuquerque for providing this free meeting space for District 17.
If you haven’t noticed by now the first phase of our Cibola Loop Multigenerational Center is being built. It is so exciting as I began the development of this project as your former City Councilor, and my office as your Legislator has provided millions of dollars to build this first phase. A Ribbon Cutting will be forthcoming in late fall, and I hope to see you all in attendance. This is great news for seniors and youth, as many much-needed social services will become available at this location, and we will no longer need to drive to the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center or the West Mesa Community Center. We will finally have our very own Multigenerational Center! (See photos below) Phase Two should include a library and Olympic sized swimming pool when built.

As we know, traffic continues to be a huge Westside issue. Paseo Del Norte, now a $64M Transportation Project, is still on track for development. The City has been in the process of acquiring the needed Right of Way (R of W) to build the entire highway area, west of Calle Nortena to Unser. There are about 4-5 large properties that the City yet needs to obtain possession of the R-of-W to build. According to the City Municipal Development Office construction is scheduled to begin early next year and should take several years to construct.
Finally, the 2026 Legislative Session begins in January. This is a 30 Day Session, and is the Governors Call, meaning the Guv controls the topics to be heard at the session. This process happens every other year. I am however still interested in hearing your issues and concerns, as I can express these to her and Speaker Javier Martinez. However, it is more difficult to get our priority bills on the agenda, but not impossible, due to the Governor’s prerogative. I will always fight to express our concerns to any Governor and get their ear on our District priorities.
There is chatter about a Special Session being called by the Governor, but no definitive plans are set. The Legislative Leadership has established a special Interim Committee, The Federal Infrastructure Funds and Stability Interim Committee, chaired by Representative Patty Lundstrum of Gallup, to address the large Federal cuts to many important NM programs that will be negatively impacted, as part of the recent Federal Bill passed by Congress, now signed by the President. These cuts will have significant impacts in 2026 on programs such as Medicaid, healthcare, education, SNAP Benefits, Rural Hospitals, etc. This committee is reviewing the details of the bill and exploring funding options to help temper the impact. Unfortunately, the State is going to have to budget State funding to lessen the blow on some New Mexicans’ lives, and our communities. Stay tuned for more details.
Hope you are having a great summer 2025!
With Gratitude,
State Representative
